EnergyCrew is an independent energy publication by Matt Wapples, exploring the systems, technologies, people and markets that power the world.
The aim is simple: make energy more interesting and easier to understand.
That might mean explaining why American water towers behave a little like batteries, tracing the battle between AC and DC, looking at what Tesla actually achieved with wireless power, or asking what Australia's solar success means for the grid that comes next.
Some pieces are technical. Some are historical. Some start with something I noticed while living or working in a different country. The common thread is curiosity, practical experience and a desire to understand how energy systems really work.

About the author
By day, Matt Wapples works with utilities and energy companies on distributed energy, flexibility and the technologies helping power systems become more intelligent.
His career has taken him across utilities, consulting and energy technology, with work spanning markets in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America. He also holds an Executive MBA from Imperial College London.
EnergyCrew is where he works through the questions that sit outside the next meeting or strategy deck: how energy systems developed, why different countries solve the same problems differently, and what today's technology might mean for the system we build next.
